So much for those apple commercials...?

I don't know if you've seen them, but they feature two guys one an older loking white gentleman in a suit, the other a 20 or 30 something white guy in a tee and jeans. Each one representing an operating system. One commercial touts Apple's immunity to viruses (begging hackers to get going on that next big mac bug) another apple's easy compatibility with most hardware. I there are few others. As a mac geek, I find them pretty cute.

My point? Both of my apple computers bit the dust in the last 2 weeks. UGH! My almost 4 year old lap top's screen went blank and was never heard from again. The extended warranty ran out last fall. (not before a 4 foot fall that broke the CD rom drive. Fixed by Apple in 3 days!)
Ever since I got the G5 it has been freezing at, increasingly frequent, random moments. I have been putting off calling apple.

This moring I call. One thing I love about apple is that they are good about having techs that speak fluent English and are actually located in the U.S. I spoke with Amber (a native English speaker)who had me try several different ways of restarting my computer and by the time we were done, my computer wouldn't start up at all. Great tech support, right? Well now that it had been established that it can't be fixed via the phone, they will either make an appointment for me at an Apple Store or send someone out to fix it! How many PC companies give that kind of service? Another example of Apple rocking my world.

All Day Wedding

Rachel offered to put me in touch with one of her clients who were only having her tape their ceremony. She thought I could offer to tape everything else. The bride took me up on it. I met her and her maids at the salon at 9 am. I taped until 8:30 at night.
WOW! This was my first time doing an entire day and it was exhausting. My neck was so sore by the end of the day.

I spoke with Rachel a few days later and she said that she gets worn out too. This seemed like an easy job. I am really learning.

Ozzie!

Adopted from the Golden Valley Humane Society on 5/25. We had made a few visits to find “the one” and this little guy caught our eye. He took to us right away (and we took to him). Unfortunately, because we have other cats, he is quarantined in our sunporch (bathroom if we get the temp. we’re supposed to get this weekend) until we take him to the vet on Tuesday. He is so playful and watches us through the glass doors. I can’t wait to see him explore the rest of the house.
No name yet. Because of the spots on his tummy, we think he looks just like an ocelot. so we have been trying out Ozzie (also for Ozzie Guillen, as Peder is a die hard White Sox fan.)

Hosted

AurilliaVideo.com is now something I am not completely ashamed of. Asking a stranger to visit the site helped motivated me to get busy on that. After much research and conflicting information, I gave up and signed up with Bluehost.com. About $100 a year but that is pretty standard, give or take $10. I'm pretty happy with it. I have had to get tech support twice already and they were right on. although I got a fairly condescending email. I must remember to include the fact that I have spent 15 minutes searching their FAQ in all trouble tickets from now on.

Anyway, Next step is to fix some minor mistakes & problems on the website and order all of that equipment I need for the wedding in June.

A paying client!

After seeing a post on the Knot about someone looking for an aspiring videographer, and debating myself for about an hour, I put on my flame retardant suit and posted my email address. My heart was pounding. Wedding vendors are supposed to be verboten on the Knot chat boards. Would I get caught? Would I get flamed? Really all I posted was my email address. When she contacted me I then let her know that I was the aspiring videographer I know. As soon as I heard from her I deleted the post.

Anyway, I directed her to my pathetic website and told her to email me if she was interested. She immediately responded that she was interested and wanted to book me! Yaaaay! I am meeting with her sometime on Saturday. I'm really feeling good about this. The adreneline was pumping.

Latest Web Site Design

So I spent this afternoon playing around in PhotoShop trying to figure out how I wanted my web site to look. Here is what I came up with:
I'm pretty proud of it. The border around the top, left and bottom will stay as you click through the pages that show up in the middle box.
I stole the color scheme from my salon's website. (aurillia means "golden") But everything else is completely from scratch.
Now I have to get a host and figure out how to get the elements into a web format.

Saturday I made enough for two tripods!

One more thing done.

$35 to the Richfield Sun Current will get my legal DBA notice published. It turns out that I only have to publish in one paper. That saves me some $$$. Enough to get a decent light!

I should be filling out job applications

Man, I can waste a lot of time on this business thing. You'd think that someone would write a book, or at least a pamphlet, on starting a business in MN. Oh wait! They did. And they publicize it like mad. Unfortunately you can't get it. The link to the PDF doesn't work. Hasn't for months. Arrrgh!

So I spent the day looking for a company to host my website. Those ads on my free host are starting to get to me. It won't let me design it the way I want.
