Biker boy

With the warm weather the kids have been loving riding their bikes. This evening, after a few trips up and down the block Felix said, "You know, I think I know how to go so fast that maybe I could go without my training wheels."

So I took them off. With a tiny bit of encouragement and a hand on his seat to get started, he just took off. It was amazing. He needed a little help learning to stop, and he fell a few times before we went inside, but he got right back on.

He just knew he was ready. That is so cool.

Best ever

Leo is the only one left who sees feeding the cat as a daring adventure instead of a chore. That means less fighting over who gets to do it. He is very proud of the system he has developed for getting the lid to stay open. Ask him about it sometime.

Yesterday I asked who would feed Ozzie and Leo kept into action. After he was done, he proudly told me, "I did it. I'm the best Leo in the whole wide world."

You sure are buddy.

My funny kids

I've written before about Leo's house. The one he tells us all about, all the time. It seem like a pretty sweet place.

Tonight as I was putting him down to sleep, he told me, "I have to go to my house to take care of my brother. He's sick. Not Felix, another brother. There's a pool and a sailing water. He sails on the sailing water. The windows have googly eyes. They go googlly googlly." as he moves his head in circles. (My mom is away, visiting her sick brother.)

Later, I was reading the weirdest rhyming book called "I Can't Said the Ant." The boys both love it. One line has the platter asking what was the matter (or something like that), and Felix asked what a platter is. I told him it's like a big plate.
"So it isn't like the platter on your penis?"
"I don't think so. Where is the platter on your penis?"
"I don't know. But when we drive to Austin you ask if everyone has an empty platter before we go."

Pi Day of the century!

At the tail end of bedtime routine, Relia asked "What is Pi?" Why do we care so much about it?" I told her that was a daytime question that she could ask me again in the morning.
She did
So i got out some cans and had her trace their bases. then we cut out the circles she had made and folded them to find their diameters.

We rolled the cans on the edge of a paper to find the circumference, and then compared it with the diameter.

She made predictions and changed her predictions as the evidence changed.

We figured out that the circumference was always 3 diameters plus a little bit more.
All before breakfast.

Then Leo, Relia and I met other geeks for a 3.1 mile walk around Lake Harriet. Beginning at 9:26:15

Later Peder and I went out for a date that ended with pie!
