Eventful day

I had class again today, learning how to narrow the racial gaps in math achievement.

During class a mouse decided to make an appearance. The school is built about six feet from a large wooded area so it isn't a surprise that there would be a bunch of them. It amazes me how adults act the same way as kids when mice are involved. I will jump if I see a mouse, but given 30 seconds to process, I'll go after it with a shoebox and a board. For the next two hours, even the leaders were tiptoeing around and shrieking.

I ran into my 3rd grade teacher. She looks fantastic, she remembers me 24 years later. I showed her photos of Relia and got all nervous. I IDOLIZED her in third grade. She was young and pretty and nice.

After picking Relia up, I went to run some errands. On the way home from our last stop, I must have not tightened Relia's carseat straps, because while driving on 35w, I looked up and saw a little girl's face in my rear view mirror. She was standing up. Of couse every exit on the freeway is closed so I convinced her to at least sit back down and put the straps back on. And drove to the our exit picturing the newspaper headlines when I was pulled over by the police for having a child bouncing around my backseat -or something worse.

We all arrived safe and sound.

  1. Oh wow - Relia!

Gillian used to do that. No matter how tight I had her chairs, she could find a way to slip out. I'd get so scared!

  3. Eeeek! About the mouse and the car seat...

I have the same reaction to mice. I freak for about 10 seconds and then think "hmmm, it's a mouse...." It is funny how adults act....

And I haven't *yet* but I'm afraid the day will come soon when I completely forget to strap Dahlia in her carseat all together! Ack!

Glad you made it home safe & sound!

  4. I've had it happen once or twice, not forgetting to buckle, but having switched over a carseat and having forgotten to buckle the carseat to the car seat. It still gives me shivers, but of course, everyone came through OK! I just remember being on the freeway and looking back to see the carseat was not secure and wanting to just pull over right then and there (which probably would have been less safe than forgetting to buckle the carseat in)!

Just think, we never had carseats growing up and we all made it OK!

  6. OK, seriously, why won't it let me post as MamaD4 for the initial comment, but it will for the followup?
